Abstract

This research aimed to test (%) alcohol content in hand sanitizers
circulating in the city of Makassar. Hand sanitizer is a type of antiseptic
used instead of washing hands with soap. Handsanitizer has a variety of
substances contained. In general, it contains 60-90% alcohol,
benzalikonium chloride, benzethonium chloride, chlorhexidine, gluconatee,
chloroxylenolf, clofucarbang, hexachlorophene, hexylresocarcinol,
iodineandiodophors, and triclosan, but usually those are often used in
society or often used by people containing alcohol and triclosan. The
alcohol content test was carried out by using the distillation method. Of the
6 types of hand sanitizer used, the average percentage (%) of alcohol
content is > 60%. Meanwhile, several other studies also suggest that the
percent (%) alcohol content is 60%-90%.
